Shirogami is a pure carbon steel commonly used in traditional Japanese Wa-bocho and forged blades. Its name comes from the white paper used for identification during production. Consisting of "pure iron and carbon" with minimal impurities, it most authentically represents the inherent characteristics of traditional carbon steel.

白紙鋼（しろがみこう・しろはがね）は、日本の伝統的な高級和包丁や打刃物に広く使われる純粋な炭素鋼（ハガネ）です。製造時に識別用の白い紙が貼られていたことが名前の由来です。余計な成分を極限まで取り除いた「純粋な鉄と炭素」の化合物であり、ハガネ本来の特長が最も色濃く出ます。
